Miley Cyrus sure has a penchant for singing in her backyard. But then again, why wouldn’t she, considering she probably lives in a mansion? But that’s not important here — what’s important is that Miley has released another cover song from her “Backyard Sessions” series. Following her cover of Jeff Buckley’s “Lilac Wine”, the “Two And A Half Men” guest star has put her own spin on Melanie Safka’s “Look What They’ve Done To My Song,” and it sounds GORG.
Accompanied by two acoustic guitars, Miley (who by the way shot this pre-haircut!!) confidently wails the words to the vintage hit: “Well, if the people are buying tears/ I’ll be rich someday, Ma/ Look what they’ve done to my song.” No disrespect to Miley’s “Can’t Be Tamed” era, but did anyone else hear that adorable country twang in her voice? Because we think that twang is just dyyyying to be fully realized in a country pop album. And yes, you can most definitely quote me on that.
Miley Cyrus is back with another video from her Backyard Sessions series that was filmed over the summer.
This time the 19-year-old is putting her own spin on “Look What They’ve Done To My Song” originally by Melanie Safka.
We have to say, we don’t think we’ve ever heard Miley’s voice sound better! PS, how gorgeous is that backyard? This video definitely gets us excited for new Miley music, which we’re expected to hear before the end of the year.
What do you think of Miley’s new cover?
Original Song: “Look What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma” by Melanie Safka
Cover Artist: Miley Cyrus, as part of her “Backyard Sessions” series
How It’s Different: Miley sticks close to the original, but updates Safka’s folk classic with her deep, soulful voice and layered guitars.
Why We Love It: We can’t get enough of Miley’s Backyard Sessions. Her revival of lesser-known old classics and showcasing of her rich vocal talent make us wish that Miley would record an entire acoustic album.. seriously.
Better than the Original? We’re team Miley on this one — but we still think her “Lilac Wine” cover is her best yet.
Do you love Miley’s cover — or are you more into her new dubstep music?
